How to improve the cooling efficiency of wet surface air cooler

Improving the cooling efficiency of wet surface air coolers can start from the following key aspects:

1. Optimize equipment structure

Improved wet surface design

Increasing the area of the wet surface and optimizing its shape can improve the cooling efficiency. For example, more efficient filler materials, such as ceramic fillers with good hydrophilicity and large specific surface area or new synthetic fiber fillers, can be used. These fillers can make water form a thinner and more uniform water film on its surface, thereby increasing the contact area between air and water and strengthening the evaporative cooling process. At the same time, a reasonable design of the wet surface shape, such as a wavy or honeycomb structure, can guide air and water to better contact and heat exchange, thereby improving the cooling efficiency.

Optimized air channel design

Ensure that the air passage is smooth and allows air to flow evenly over the wet surface. Reduce the resistance of the air passage to avoid air short circuits or eddy currents. Through numerical simulation or experimental research, adjust the shape, size, and inlet and outlet positions of the passage so that air can flow over the wet surface at a suitable flow rate and pressure distribution, which can improve the heat and mass exchange efficiency between air and water.

2. Improve operating conditions

Controlling air and water parameters

Adjust the temperature, humidity and flow rate of the air entering the cooler. At lower air temperature and humidity, water evaporates more easily and the cooling efficiency is higher. The incoming air can be pre-treated by pre-cooling or dehumidification. At the same time, the air flow rate should be properly controlled. Too fast flow rate may cause the water film to be destroyed, and too slow flow rate will reduce the heat exchange efficiency. Finding the best air flow rate range can effectively improve the cooling effect. For water, it is also important to keep the water temperature low and stable. Lower water temperature can increase the temperature difference with the air and enhance the cooling capacity.

Improve ventilation conditions

Good ventilation is essential for wet surface air coolers. Make sure there is enough space around the cooler for air circulation to avoid the surrounding environment from blocking the air intake and exhaust. For the installation location, choose a well-ventilated place, or install auxiliary ventilation equipment such as exhaust fans to enhance the natural or forced convection of the air, so as to promptly remove the water vapor generated by evaporation and promote the continuous and efficient evaporative cooling process.

3. Maintenance and cleaning work

Clean wet surfaces and pathways regularly

Over time, dust, impurities and microorganisms may accumulate on wet surfaces and in air passages. Regular cleaning can prevent these contaminants from clogging passages, affecting water film formation and heat exchange. For example, regularly flushing wet surfaces and passages with clean water, or using chemical cleaning methods to remove stubborn dirt, keeps the equipment in good operating condition, and thus improves cooling efficiency.

Inspect and maintain water systems

Ensure the normal operation of the water system, including water pumps, nozzles, water pipes and other components. Check whether the nozzles are blocked to ensure that the water can be sprayed evenly on the wet surface; maintain the water pump to ensure the stability of water flow and pressure; regularly check the water pipes for leaks to avoid water waste and changes in system pressure that affect cooling efficiency.
