Advantages of Finned Tube

Increase Heat Transfer Rate
The fins in a finned tube increase the surface area of contact. This allows it to quicken the heat transfer rate.

Improve Heat Transfer Coefficient
In an ordinary tube, the outer surface area is just about the same or slightly different from the inner surface area. In such a case, the fluid with the lowest heat transfer coefficient will drive the entire heat transfer rate. A finned tube increases the surface area significantly. This is particularly helpful when the heat transfer coefficient of the fluid inside the tube is greater than that of the fluid outside the tube.

Cost Efficient
Finned tubes can significantly increase the surface area. The use of a finned tube can cut down the number of tubes used in an application. This results in a considerable reduction in the size of the equipment. In the long run, this can lead to a decrease in the cost of the project.

Application of Finned Tube

Oil and Gas Industry Applications

Finned tubes are used in many applications in the oil and gas industry. Typically used in boilers and furnaces, their increased surface area allows for more efficient transfer of heat from combustion gases to water or steam. In addition, finned tubes are also commonly used in refinery process heating systems and other high-pressure applications due to their superior strength and durability compared to conventional tubing.

Power generation industry applications

Fin tubes are also widely used in the power generation industry. They can be found in coal-fired and nuclear power plants and are often used to cool reactor components by circulating liquid coolant through them. Additionally, finned tubes are used in gas turbine exhaust systems to reduce noise levels while still maintaining effective cooling performance.

HVAC industry applications

Finally, finned tubes can also be found in a variety of HVAC applications, such as air conditioning systems, refrigeration units, and ventilation systems. Fins provide a larger surface area to better dissipate heat from hot airflow while still providing efficient airflow through the system.

Materials of Finned Tube

Finned tubes are usually made of four metals – Stainless steel, carbon steel, copper and aluminum. Each metal has specific properties; as a result, finned tubes made of these materials have specific roles to play.

For instance, if the tube is to be exposed to acidic conditions and a high heat transfer is required – Stainless steel fins with a copper tube are the ideal choice.

Carbon steel tubes are best for low-budget projects where corrosion is not an issue.

Copper or aluminum fins are a popular choice in cases where a high-heat transfer needs to be achieved. However, copper is slightly more expensive than aluminum. Aluminum is one of the most popularly used metals in fin tubes. The simple reason for its popularity is that it is affordable, formable and easy to apply.

Made Process of Finned Tubes

The first is to apply the tape to the outside of the tube perpendicular to the tube configuration.
The second is to form or press the fins into the tube wall to form extruded fins.
The third is to form the tube using a die to create dimples or shapes in the tube wall.

Fin strips are continuously welded and helically wound on polished bare tubes. The tubes and fins are joined together using high frequency resistance welding techniques. We manufacture solid flat and serrated spiral welded steel finned tubes. Also, all spiral welded tubes can be bent in the middle or at the end of the finned tubes, which we call hairpin tubes.

Installation of Finned Tube

Before installation, we must carry out on-site measurement to determine the model, number of finned tube radiators and the specific installation location.

Various accessories for radiator installation, such as boards, pliers, screwdrivers and other common tools.

The pre-installation includes the positioning of heating equipment, slotting, piping, pipe connection, installation of water collector and manifold, pressure test, etc.

The later installation includes the installation of the fin tube radiator (including the fixed suspension of the fin tube radiator, the connection of the valve and the fin tube radiator and the heating pipe), the pressure test of the entire system and the installation of the fin tube radiator Debugging etc.

Pay attention to the installation and construction process, before or after the construction of water and electricity, it should be carried out before the construction of other decoration procedures.

If the heating is installed before decoration, the branch pipe connecting the heating main pipe and the finned tube radiator should be buried under the floor and in the wall. Do not leak the pipe outside to avoid damage.

When the finned tube is selected, the number of fins, the width of each fin, the distance between the fins, the way of water intake, and the distance between the interfaces, should be accurate in size to avoid affecting the installation of the fin tube radiator in the later stage.

FAQ

Q: What is a finned tube?

A: Finned tubes are the main components of heat exchangers.
Finned tubes are elongated aluminium cladded carbon steel flat tubes with brazed aluminium fins. Multiple types and shapes of finned tubes exist including round tubes, oval tubes, or flat tubes.

Q: What is the purpose of fins on evaporator?

A: Fins are small, thin metal strips that help transfer heat. On the condenser coil, these fins help transfer heat away from the coil, cool the refrigerant, and expel heat outside. And on the evaporator coil, these fins help transfer heat into the coil, heat the refrigerant, and soak up heat inside.

Q: How are finned tubes made?

A: The basic finned tube manufacture technologies include wrapping a fin strip directly onto the tube, mechanical bending of the wound strip, mechanical working, highfrequency welding, and electric arc welding, most frequently using the MAG method.

Q: What are the different types of finned tubes?

A: One of the most frequent forms of finned tubes is the 'L' fin. It relies on the fin and tube having the most surface contact possible. 'L' fin tubes are made of ductile metals like aluminium and copper, and can resist temperatures of up to 170°C, as well as compression and stretching during installation.

Q: What is the difference between extruded and embedded fins?

A: Embedded fins (G-Fins) are made by winding aluminium or copper strip into a helical groove machined on the outer surface of the tube. Extruded finned tubes are bimetallic tubes whose outer aluminium surface is finned by cold plastic deformation.

Q: What is the maximum diameter can place fins?

A: Each style of tube or fin enhancement will dictate the range of tube size. However, the largest tube size is 4″on edge tension finned tube.

Q: How long does it take to produce finned tubes?

A: The production cycle of finned tubes is determined by the complexity of the drawings provided and the order quantity. We will rush production orders to arrange delivery at a faster speed.

Q: Are the finned tubes in stock?

A: Yes, we have a large inventory of tubes and are ready for custom production for our customers.

Q: Is expedited service available?

A: Yes, we can do this, if your order is in a hurry, you can contact us as soon as possible.
