Features of Surface Cooler

Principle of Operation Surface Cooler
 

Wet surface air coolers operate in a manner similar to open cooling towers, except that the heat load to be rejected is transferred from the process fluid (the fluid being cooled) to the ambient air through a heat exchange coil. The coil serves to isolate the process fluid from the outside air, keeping it clean and contaminate free in a closed loop. This creates two separate fluid circuits:

(1) An external circuit, in which spray water circulates over the coil and mixes with the outside air.

(2) An internal circuit, in which the process fluid circulates inside the coil. During operation, heat is transferred from the internal circuit, through the coil to the spray water, and then to the atmosphere as a portion of the water evaporates.

Cycle Requirements of Surface Cooler

 

In the working process of the surface cooler, the refrigerant is mainly used to absorb heat in the surface cooler, so that the temperature of the cooled space is gradually reduced. The fan coil surface cooler of the air handling unit cools the air flowing through the heat exchange fins outside the pipe through the air conditioning chilled water (refrigerant water) flowing inside. The fan sends the cooled cold air to the place of use for cooling. The refrigerant water takes the heat absorbed back to the refrigeration unit from the return pipe of the surface cooler, releases heat, cools down, and then is sent back to the surface cooler to absorb heat and cool the air flowing through And it goes on and on.

 

The surface cooler can effectively avoid the oxidation of heat transfer oil to a certain extent. As the heat carrier, the heat transfer oil is prone to oxidation reaction under high temperature operation, resulting in oil deterioration. Therefore, nitrogen charging protection should be carried out in the high temperature expansion tank to ensure the sealing of the system, avoid contact with air and prolong the service life of hot oil.
